2022 Tennessee State Open Checker Tournament. We are currently planning to have the tournament on March 4th thru 6th (Friday thru Sunday) at the Econo Lodge in Lebanon, Tn. The hotel is located at 829 S Cumberland Street (exit 238 North from I-40). For reservations at Econo Lodge, call 615-444-1001 (cost $69.95). Please call before February 18, 2022 for reservations and tell them you are a checker player. There is no guarantee that the rates will apply or that the rooms will be available after that date. Any reservation can be cancelled as late as 4pm the day before your arrival. We play in their 12x18 conference room and have permission to use lobby / breakfast area if needed. Two rounds will be played on Friday, four on Saturday, and two on Sunday. Larry will also treat players to a Friday evening pizza party. There will be a larger prize fund and a good group of player. Registration will begin on Friday at 1pm followed by a business meeting at 3pm. Play will start immediately following the business meeting on Friday and end Sunday at 1pm. Congratulations! To Byron Woolum from Walker, KY and Jerry Askins from Monticello, KY as Co-Champions of the 2022 Tennessee State Open Major Division.
Congratulations! To MS Alex Holmes from Clarksville, IN who finished 3rd in Masters Division just one point behind Co-Champions of the 2022 TN State Open Tournament.
Congratulations! To Kim Willis from Barnett, MO who tied 3rd place in Majors and also the highest finisher in the Minor bracket within the Major Division and also recognized as the Tennessee State Open Minor Champion.
Congratulations! To Ken Christian from Red Boiling Springs, TN as the highest finishing Tennessean, and recognized as the 2022 Tennessee State Champion, with cash & plaque.
The tournament was 7 rounds of Round Robin with 8 players in two divisions: Masters and Majors.
The $5,200 prize fund was a combine combinations of Gene Lindsey Fund, Leonard Hickman Fund, contributions, and entry fees.
We appreciate Joe McDaniel supporting our tournaments.
Everyone signed a card for Lynn Steelman.
We gave Anthony Bishop the Frank & Marry Davis’ and Ralph Agee’s Tennessee Checker photo scrapbooks.
Oldest checker player was Ken Christian - age 87 and the youngness was Alex Holmes - age 23.
We presented Larry Keen his "Tournament Honoree Plaque" from last year’s Southern.
We offer a big Thank You to all who help make this tournament a success, especially Larry, Randy, Jerry, Kim.
